More than 80 people reportedly killed and nearly 250 injured as fire broke out at a temple in India.

More than 80 people have been killed and nearly 250 injured as fire broke out at a temple in the city of Kollam, Kerala state, which is in India.

State Police Chief T.P.Senkumar said that the death toll in a fire caused by fireworks at the Puttingal temple has reached 84.

"We have launched a probe," Senkumar told The Indian Express newspaper.

​The fire has been caused by fireworks used for temple celebrations, the Indian Express newspaper said.

According to reports, the building was completely destroyed in the incident.
