STEPANAKERT (Sputnik) — The situation in the de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) after a recently mediated truce came into force has been somewhat peaceful, NKR President's Spokesman David Babayan said Thursday.

Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on an immediate ceasefire on Tuesday, after almost four days of intense fighting in the disputed Azerbaijan's region of Nagorno-Karabakh with predominantly Armenian population. The parties have since accused each other of multiple violations.

"The situation on the contact line as a whole can be assessed as relatively calm, more peaceful than in the course of a four-day war, and even more calm than in the past two years, when the situation became tense," Babayan told RIA Novosti.
