Nagorno-Karabakh MoD Accuses Baku of Provocations on Line of Contact

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry press service stated on Thursday that the Azerbaijani Armed forces were shelling the positions throughout all night along the entire line of contact in the de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

YEREVAN (Sputnik) – Azerbaijani Armed Forces carried out intensive shelling throughout the night along the entire line of contact in the de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic attempting to provoke the situation in the region, the republic’s Defense Ministry’s press service said Thursday.

“Azerbaijani Armed Forces throughout the night shelled the Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact using different types of armament. Moreover, two diversionary attempts were made by the Azerbaijani side that were successfully foiled byKarabakh Army defense units,” the press service said. 

Earlier on Tuesday, a ceasefire came into effect between the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan, following five days of clashes that led to fatal casualties on both sides. 

The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh began in 1988, when the Armenian-dominated autonomous region sought to secede from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, before the latter itself proclaimed independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
