Winter Olympic Games 2022 in Beijing will be held with no delay.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Preparations for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are being carried out according to schedule, Alexander Zhukov, the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s coordination commission for the 2022 Winter Games, told Sputnik on Wednesday.

Zhukov and his commission visited the Chinese capital last week to assess the city's readiness to host the multi-sport event, to be held on February 4-20, 2022.

"Now the preparations are at the initial stage, but Beijing is already fairly well prepared for the Games. Firstly, it has a lot of experience of hosting major events, including athletic ones. Secondly, the Games' organizing committee has already been established, [and is] a very skilled and professional one," Zhukov, who is also president of the Russian Olympic Committee, said.

He added that China's current overall readiness for the Games could be estimated as high although the organizers were still dealing with some logistic issues.

Beijing is expected to become the first city ever to host both Summer and Winter Olympic Games, having hosted the Summer Games in 2008.
