MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the North had fired two short-range missiles in the direction of the Sea of Japan.
"The government is consulting with other nations over diplomatic responses [to the missile launch] and considering other necessary steps, including sending a letter to the UNSC sanctions panel," the ministry's spokesman, Cho June-hyuck, told reporters, as quoted by South Korea's Yonhap news agency.
The spokesman stressed that any launch that uses ballistic missile technology violated of UNSC resolutions.
Since the beginning of 2016, North Korea has conducted a nuclear test, its fourth to date, and launched a long-range rocket, in defiance of UNSC resolutions.
