MOSCOW (Sputnik) —South Korean President Park Geun-hye called Monday on country's officials to ensure safety of the citizens in light of possible terrorist attacks by North Korea.
Seoul "should put in place a thorough readiness posture against another North Korean provocation," the president said, as quoted by the local Yonhap news agency.
She added that North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un allegedly ordered local officials to focus on developing capabilities to conduct terrorist and cyberattacks against South Korea.
In mid February, South Korea reportedly raised the level of cyberattack alert to prevent possible North Korean aggression in the cyberspace. The previous upgrade of the alert took place following North Korea’s nuclear test last month that escalated tensions on the peninsula.
On January 6, Pyongyang said it had successfully carried out a hydrogen bomb test which triggered a wave of condemnation from the international community.
On February 7, North Korea launched a Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite atop a long-range rocket, defying a UN Security Council resolution which bans Pyongyang from launching rockets that could be used as ballistic missiles carrying nuclear warheads.
