    Death Toll From Taiwan Earthquake Reaches 108

    The number of people killed in the earthquake in the Taiwan's southwest city of Tainan reached 108, media reported Saturday.

    BEIJING (Sputnik) — Earlier media reports put the number of killed in the 6.7-magnitude earthquake that struck 28 miles southeast of Tainan on February 6, at 98.

    Nine people remain missing, the Chinese Xinhua news agency said, citing an official update on the casualties.

    Out of the 108 victims, 106 were found under the rubble of a 16-storey residential building destroyed by the earthquake in Tainan. A total of 281 people were rescued out of some 380, who were inside the building at the moment of the quake.

    The rescue team has not found survivors since late Monday.
