MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On January 10, Manila imposed the gun ban, suspending the availability of firearms and permits to carry them.
The number of arrested for carrying or using guns has reached 504, The Philippine Star reported citing a spokesman for the PNP.
The newspaper added that the majority of the arrested were civilians, while 17 of them were police officers, security guards or employees of law enforcement agencies.
The ban, which is expected to end on June 10, was introduced in light of upcoming national and local elections to provide security and minimize possible violence that could be caused by the electoral competition.
