MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Malaysia was put on security alert earlier this month after a string of bomb and gun terror attacks in neighboring Indonesia. According to media reports, the Malaysian-Indonesian Daesh wing has recently issued a video threatening revenge for the arrests of its members and promised to "only increase in number."
"We have to be constantly on our toes and cannot afford to let our guard down," local Counter Terrorism Division head Datuk Ayob Khan told The Star newspaper.
The official said that the fact the Daesh affiliates spoke Malay in the videa meant the new and sad "resulting in more involvement of Malaysians in terror groups."
Islamic State, which occupies vast tracts of Iraq and Syria and is outlawed in many countries including Russia, has gained much notoriety. The jihadists are notorious for conducting suicide bombings and other attacks worldwide, as well as having affiliates all across the world and recruiting young people via social media.
Among the most recent attacks, Daesh claimed responsibility for a string of the deadly attacks on the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on January 14.
