05:08 GMT 19.01.2016 (Updated: 05:35 GMT 19.01.2016) Some 9,700 people have been ordered to evacuate a town in the northern Japanese prefecture of Hokkaido as heavy snowfall and wind have left 52,000 residents without power, the country's media reported Tuesday.
TOKYO (Sputnik) – The warnings issued to residents of Nemuro are linked to the growing danger of tall waves flooding houses and putting some 4,000 families at risk, according to Kyodo News.

Power lines were damaged by falling trees, while three airlines canceled around 90 domestic flights.
The weather in Tokyo has cleared, but temperatures remain cold with strong wind gusts.
Bad weather is forecast to continue across northern Japan on Wednesday, threatening disruptions to transport links.
