TOKYO (Sputnik) – On Thursday, representatives of foreign ministries of the United States, Japan and South Korea held talks in Seoul and agreed to seek new sanctions against North Korea.
"Such provocative actions and hostile steps would not only exacerbate the situation on the Korean Peninsula, but also kindle the flame," a statement of the North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson distributed through the Korean Central News Agency read.
"[The resolution is] aimed at hostile activity, to block the way for peaceful economic development and improvement of people's lives in North Korea," the ministry spokesperson stressed.
The country announced on January 6 it had successfully tested a hydrogen bomb, triggering international condemnation as a provocative move destabilizing the region.
