Moscow Confirms Arrest of Russians in Turkey Over Suspected Links to Daesh

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday the detention of three Russian nationals in the Turkish city of Antalya over suspected connection to Daesh terrorist group (also known as ISIL or Islamic State).

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Russian Consulate in Antalya confirmed media reports that three Russians had been detained after an explosion in Istanbul’s historical center the day before claimed the lives of at least 10 people and injured at least 15 others.

"We confirm the information on the January 11 arrest of three Russian citizens in Antalya, who are suspected of links to Islamic State activities," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, the Russian diplomats in Turkey are taking steps to get access to the detainees and clarify the circumstances of the arrest.

Turkish Anadolu news agency reported earlier on Wednesday that police found documents belonging to the detained, proving that they provided logistical support to Daesh.
