“This morning at least 2 more terrorists were engaged since 12:20 pm [ ]. We are very hopeful by evening two terrorists shall also be neutralised,” Mehrishi said at a news briefing, as quoted by the NDTV.
A security operation is underway on Sunday at Pathankot air force base in Punjab a day after a group of gunmen stormed the military facility.
According to Mehrishi, so far, four terrorists have been gunned down. However, media reports suggest that the number of gunmen killed by the Indian forces reached six on Sunday.
According to Khosla, seven security personnel have lost their lives in the operation and 20 were injured.
The investigation into the assault has been overtaken by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), a government agency set up to tackle terror threats in the country.
The attacked air base is located on the road to the contested Kashmir region. India and Pakistan have been in dispute over Kashmir for almost 70 years.
