According to media reports, one person found dead and 17 others remain missing on the site of the collapsed gypsum mine in China.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — One person died in the collapse of a gypsum mine in Shandong province in eastern China, while 17 others remain missing, local media reported Saturday.

About 700 rescuers continue to operate at the scene, Xinhua news agency reported.

Earlier media reports suggested that rescue teams managed to remove 11 people alive from the rubble.

The collapse occurred early on Friday in the Pingyi county. At least 29 people were underground at the time of the accident.

According to media reports, fluctuations that occurred as result of the collapse were equivalent to an earthquake of 4.0 magnitude.
