    Mortar Attack in Afghanistan Kills at Least 12, Injures Six

    At least 12 people, including children, were killed and six injured in a mortar attack in the Afghan Wardak Province, Afghan media said Friday.

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) — "The incident took place near a mosque in Dandokai village in Sayed Abad district at around 10 a.m. [06:30 GMT]," secretary of the Wardak provincial council Sharifullah Hotak said, as quoted by the Kabul-based TOLOnews broadcaster.

    According to Hotak, the Taliban Islamic movement fighters and the Afghan National Army continue military actions in this area.

    The Taliban is a violent religious extremist group founded in the 1990s seeking to impose sharia law in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
