According to local media reports, India's south is being hit by a bout of fresh rains, suspending public transport and leaving hundreds of people without power amid heavy flooding.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — High rainfall in the southeastern Indian city of Chennai caused heavy flooding, and flight and train cancellations, local media reported Wednesday.

"Chennai airport is totally waterlogged, about 700 passengers stuck at the airport," Minister for Culture and Tourism and Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said said, as quoted by the The Asian News International.

Flooding has killed almost 190 in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu in the past month and has left hundreds of people without power or food.

The Indian army is currently evacuating residents in the most affected areas to temporary shelters, as well as rescuing thousands of citizens stranded after renewed rains in Chennai.
