BEIJING (Sputnik) – Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying confirmed Thursday deaths of two employees of the Chinese consulate in Cebu, Philippines in a shooting.
"Two employees of the general consulate of China were killed and one was wounded as a result of a shooting on Wednesday, October 21, in the city of Cebu. We are deeply sorry about what happened. Currently we are trying to get information about what transpired," Hua said at a briefing.
On Wednesday, media reports citing authorities claimed that two Chinese diplomats were shot to death in a restaurant in Cebu during a birthday celebration. The gunman is reportedly a Chinese citizen attending the event as a guest.
The police are currently investigating the events.
