Maldives President Abdulla Yameen was unhurt in a blast on board his speedboat on Monday, media reports said.

An explosion ripped through the speedboat of Maldives President Abdulla Yameen on Monday, injuring his wife and two aides; the President himself was unhurt, sources said.

The cause of the blast was not immediately clear. It reportedly occurred as the speedboat approached Male, the island capital of the Indian Ocean archipelago.

The vehicle was en route to the Maldives from Saudi Arabia, where the president of the predominantly Muslim nation had made a pilgrimage to Mecca.
