NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – Indian President Pranab Mukherjee's wife, Suvra Mukherjee, passed away on Tuesday following an illness, according to an official statement.
"It is informed with deep sorrow that First Lady Smt. Suvra Mukherjee passed away this morning. She left for her heavenly abode at 10:51 a.m. (05:21 GMT)," the statement said.

According to The Times of India, Mukherjee received medical treatment on Friday for a respiratory disorder, after which she had remained in the intensive care unit.
Hospital officials ascribed Suvra Mukherjee's death to complications related to a heart attack she suffered two weeks ago.
