MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Monday night, a bomb went off in the center of Thailand’s capital Bangkok, killing 27 people, including eight foreigners, and wounding over 100.
"This is the worst incident that has ever happened in Thailand. There have been minor bombs or just noise, but this time they aim for innocent lives. They want to destroy our economy, our tourism," Prayut was quoted as saying by the BBC.
Prayut added that police were investigating a suspect caught on security footage at the shrine, where a so-called "pipe bomb" had been planted, the broadcaster reported.
The explosion went off near the Erawan Shrine at about 7:00 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT), a major tourist attraction, when the shrine and the adjacent Ratchaprasong junction were very crowded.
No terrorist group as yet has come forward to claim responsibility for the attack.
