Residents in the Chinese port city of Tianjin whose homes had been damaged in a massive blast last week took to the streets to demand compensation from the government, media reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Al Jazeera network estimated up to 400 people gathered in the Chinese petrochemical hub to demand compensation and answers from local authorities.

Displaced homeowners stood outside a hotel where reporters were being briefed by officials, carrying signs reading "fix our homes" and chanting "buy back."

Twin explosions at Tianjin’s industrial warehouses late Wednesday left 114 dead, hundreds injured, scores missing and dangerous levels of highly toxic chemicals in the ground and on structures in surrounding neighborhoods.
