World’s oldest man according to the Guinness World Records has passed away at the age of 112 in Japan, Japanese NHK television reported Tuesday.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — World’s oldest man according to the Guinness World Records has passed away at the age of 112 in Japan, Japanese NHK television reported Tuesday.

According to the local media, Sakari Momoi died of kidney failure Sunday.

Sakari Momoi was born on February 5, 1903. He worked as a high school chemistry teacher and principal in Fukushima and Saitama prefectures. He repeatedly said that he did not do anything special to achieve longevity but his doctors say he kept to a quite a healthy lifestyle.

Momoi became world’s oldest man in 2014, following the death of his predecessor, 111-year-old American chemist and writer Alexander Imich.
