    The death toll from an intense heatwave in Pakistan has jumped to at least 1,200 people, according to Pakistan's newspaper the Nation.

    Tens of thousands of people have reportedly been struck with heatstroke and dehydration in Karachi, the country's biggest city, due to the scorching temperatures that began late last week.

    An emergency situation in major hospitals in Sindh province remains in force as the authorities have warned that more casualties are expected.
