Four people, including two police officers, were killed in a shooting in China’s northern Hebei Province on Tuesday, China Central Television (CCTV) reports.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The deadly incident that CCTV referred to as a "mass shooting" in a Tuesday Twitter post injured five other people in the Suning County, located in the south of Hebei Province.

At least one suspect was among the four killed, CCTV said.

Private gun ownership is not allowed in China, and may be punished by the death penalty. Only law enforcement officials and security personnel may possess a gun for the protection of public property.

The last notable shooting took place in China’s northeastern Liaoning province in December, 2014, when a bank employee opened fire at an office of the People’s Bank of China in the city of Dashiqiao after a money-related dispute.
