Search for Missing US Helicopter Continues in Nepal
13:59 GMT 13.05.2015 (Updated: 10:13 GMT 06.08.2022) A US Marine Corps Helicopter that went missing in Nepal on Tuesday is still missing despite earlier reports, Nepal National Emergency Operation Center said on Wednesday.
NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, the authority tweeted that the helicopter was found east of the capital Kathmandu.
“Correction: Missing US Helicopter Search is still continued,” National Emergency Center said on Twitter.
The US helicopter that participated in the relief operation following a devastating earthquake in Nepal was declared missing on Tuesday. The vehicle carried eight personnel on board — six US Marines and two Nepali servicemen. A Pentagon spokesman said that the helicopter disappeared in a rugged and mountainous area as it dropped off aid supplies and was heading to another rescue site.
A new powerful quake with a 7.3-magnitude hit Nepal on Tuesday, killing at least 42 people and injuring over 1,000, according to the National Emergency Operation Center. It came two and a half weeks after a devastating earthquake hit the country on April 25 and left over 8,000 dead.
