China’s President Xi Jinping will go to Pakistan next week on an official visit which was postponed last year amid mass anti-government demonstrations in Islamabad.
China and Pakistan have long maintained close political and military relations, based mostly on mutual antipathy towards India. However, recently China has improved relations and strengthened its cooperation with India. So Xi’s upcoming visit is aimed at reassuring the Pakistani government that their relations remain robust.
The president is expected to oversee the signing of several agreements with Pakistan, including in the energy and transportation sectors.
