MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Police have recovered four bodies from the wreckage of a plane that crashed near Wanaka in southern New Zealand, the New Zealand Herald reported Monday.
A search and rescue operation was begun after a helicopter pilot spotted the downed plane and informed authorities.
Earlier in the day local media reported that the crashed six-seat Cessna 185 had three or four people on board.
No further details on the accident are available but updates will be made by March 17, the police stated.
"Due to the precarious nature of the location, the team is working to secure the site as best they can," Inspector Olaf Jensen, Otago Lakes-Central area commander said, cited by the New Zealand Herald.
Jensen added that the bodies of the victims require identification and have been taken to Wanaka.
