Four unidentified persons drove up on two motorcycles and threw explosives at the entrance of the Tamil news channel building Puthiya Thalaimurai, in India's southern city of Chennai, Thursday morning, according to a local police officer.
"We suspect Hindu groups are behind the attack. We have launched investigations but have yet to make any arrests,” the police officer told DPA.
The bombs were of low intensity, according to police reports. No one was hurt in the attack and no damage was caused to the office of the television channel.
The assault happened four days after the channel’s cameraman was allegedly attacked by some Hindu Munnani activists.
The TV channel has recently come under fire from some pro-Hindu groups, whom it angered by announcing its intention to broadcast a debate on the “mangalasutra”, a necklace worn by many married Hindu women which is considered sacred. Before Thursday’s bombing, the channel had already decided to suspend the telecast.
