A man sentenced to death for the 2012 gang-rape and murder of an Indian student has blamed the victim for "roaming around at night."

A man sentenced to death for the 2012 gang-rape and murder of an Indian student has claimed that his victim was at fault, having invited calamity by "roaming around at night", news reports said.

Mukesh Singh made the comments in a BBC documentary due to be released in seven countries, including India and Britain, on Sunday, International Women's Day.

Singh claimed that the 23-year-old victim should not have been out at night, and should not have resisted the sex assault on a moving bus in New Delhi on December 16, 2012, when she was gang-raped on her way home from the cinema with a male friend.
