NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Indian Home Ministry on Wednesday sent security instructions to each ministry and department of the Indian government after a recent corporate espionage scandal exposed an alleged theft of sensitive government documents, sources in the Home Ministry told Sputnik.
Last week, Indian police arrested several people on allegations of stealing documents from the country’s oil ministry. The total number of those arrested in connection with the incident has reached 13 people, including some officials.
The present access controls in all the ministries of Indian government will undergo sweeping changes, and electronic surveillance will be upgraded to ensure a leak-proof system, the sources said.
The espionage scandal broke last week after Delhi police arrested two oil ministry officials and two middlemen on suspicion of stealing classified documents and selling them to energy companies. A total of 12 people were arrested during several days of police raids.
On Monday, Indian police deepened investigation into the case, arresting an energy consultant and detaining six others, which brought the total number of arrested to 13 people.
