Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology said that 5.4-magnitude earthquake was registered in northern part of the country.

BALI (Sputnik) – A 5.4-magnitude earthquake was registered in northern Indonesia on Thursday, the country's Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics told RIA Novosti.

The epicentre of the earthquake is said to be located 46 kilometres (29 miles) to the north-east of Morotai Island.

No damage or victims have been reported so far. There is also no tsunami threat at the moment, according to the agency.

Indonesia, comprising thousands of islands, is vulnerable to earthquakes due to its geographical location.

In January, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit the area near Indonesia's Kei Islands.
