North Korea plans to mark 70th anniversary of its founding with a grand military parade on a scale previously unseen.
The spectacle is supposed to show the world the might of the nation and unite its people behind North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the ruling Workers' Party said. The event is expected to be held in Pyongyang’s Kim Il-Sung square on October 10.
"We will hold in grand style a parade of the service personnel of the ground, naval, air and anti-aircraft and strategic forces of the Korean People's Army and a procession of Pyongyang citizens in celebration of the Party's 70th anniversary," the party’s resolution said, as quoted by the Xinhua news agency.
The previous major military parade held in July 2013 was closely watched all over the world for glimpses of new hardware available to the secretive nation.
