The families of more than 40 victims of the TransAsia Airways ATR-72 aircraft crash will receive compensation from the airline.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — TransAsia airline offered $475,000 in compensation to the families of every victim of its recent plane crash in the Taiwanese capital, Channel NewsAsia reported Wednesday.

The compensation includes a $38,000 funeral allowance.

A TransAsia Airways ATR-72 aircraft crashed into the Keelung River in Taipei on February 4 shortly after takeoff. At least 42 of the 58 people on board were killed, according to ChannelNewsAsia.

Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council said that the aircraft’s engines lost power shortly after takeoff.

After the crash, Taiwan’s authorities ordered the company’s pilots to undergo proficiency tests, which focused on their ability to control the aircraft in case of an engine failure.
