BALI, January 6 (Sputnik) Five divers from the Russian Emergencies Ministry's Centrospas team have picked up signals from a large object in the area of the Java Sea that is being searched for Indonesia's AirAsia plane, the ministry's chief military expert Eduard Chizhikov said on Tuesday.

"We passed its coordinates [to the Basarnas national search and rescue agency]," the DetikCom news website quoted the rescue team leader as saying.

Meanwhile, Chizhikov added that the Russian team, who had been hampered by bad weather conditions earlier, had already conducted six diving missions on Tuesday.

"We have examined two areas where the main parts of the fuselage are most likely located," Chizhikov said.

AirAsia Flight QZ8501 Had No Permit to Fly on Day It Crashed

Indonesia's Airbus A320-200 departed from the city of Surabaya to Singapore on the morning of December 28. Less than an hour later, the pilot of flight QZ8501 requested and was denied permission to gain altitude as the aircraft approached dangerous cloud formations. The plane, which did not have permission to fly that route on Sundays, disappeared without sending a distress signal to air traffic control.

Out of 162 passengers and crew on board, 39 bodies have been recovered and 16 identified.
