Indian security agencies have identified sensitive airports and warned that a flight from Delhi to Kabul could be targeted in an attack similar to that in 1999, when an Indian Airlines plane was hijacked by Islamist gunmen and forced to land in the Afghan city of Kandahar.

MOSCOW, January 4 (Sputnik) — India’s Intelligence Bureau has warned of a possible hijack attempt on a flight from Delhi to Kabul after the Air India airline received an anonymous telephone threat, CNN-IBN reported Sunday.

"The Bureau of Civil Aviation has been contacted and all standard precautionary measures have been taken. Flight operation is normal from Kolkata," a police spokesperson was cited as saying by the broadcaster.

Airport security has been boosted after the Indian flag carrier’s Kolkata office received a telephone threat Saturday night.

According to CNN-IBN, security agencies have identified sensitive airports and warned that a flight from Delhi to Kabul could be targeted in an attack similar to that in 1999, when an Indian Airlines plane was hijacked by Islamist gunmen and forced to land in the Afghan city of Kandahar.
