NEW DELHI, November 14 (Sputnik) – The Indian Air Force has invited civil sector representatives and businesses to its facilities in order to arrange new job opportunities for its retiring personnel, IAF chief Arup Raha said Friday.
"We have lot of misconceptions that people from the armed forces are fit for physical security only. To break this [stereotype], we want to take the corporate world to our operational bases, repair and equipment depots and other facilities to showcase what people are doing there," Raha said at the IAF Placement Fair.
The event was organized to help retired and retiring personnel aged 38 to 42 years to find suitable jobs in the civil service or private sector. Banking giant ICICI Bank and online career resource Monster India were among companies invited to the job fair.
Raha stressed that IAF has experts in IT, communications, infrastructure, logistics and engineering, whose talents can be used in the corporate world.
The IAF Placement Cell was set up in 2007 and currently maintains a database of about 20,000 veterans.
