MOSCOW, November 13 (Sputnik) — Hundreds of people have buried their heads in the sands of Australia's Bondi Beach as a way to express their unhappiness with the government's refusal to act on the issue of climate change, ITV news reported Thursday.
The fact that Australia's Prime Minister Tony Abbott was reluctant to put the issue on the agenda of the upcoming G20 summit has sparked further anger among protesters.
"To be so far behind the rest of the developed world embarrasses progressive Australia," one of the protesters said as quoted by ITV.
The impacts of climate change can already be felt in Australia, as average temperatures have risen by 2 °C in the country since 1910. However, in July Australia repealed a tax on greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the negative environmental impact.
