The New Jersey politician everyone loves to hate, Chris Christie, got booed big-time at a baseball game after catching a foul ball as the Mets played the Cardinals in Queens on Tuesday.

Popped up by the St Louis Cardinals’ Paul DeJong, the ball landed in Christie’s hands in the third inning. While fans might typically be expected to cheer at such luck, the beach-loving governor got no such support.

As the crowd jeered, not even the game’s announcer was able to resist taking a swipe at Christie.

"Nice to see him get from the beach here to the ballpark," Dan McLaughlin quipped.

But it wasn’t only those at Citi Field throwing shade. Right on cue, social media netizens jumped in on the opportunity.

Some threw jokes about BeachGate.

Others criticized Christie’s work ethic.

Though Christie did end up giving the ball to a nearby kid, one Twitter user ditched complaining about the governor and instead went in on the child’s dad.

As Christie nears the end of his second term, and, luckily for New Jersey residents, is not seeking re-election, his legacy is likely to include going down as one of the most hated political figures in New Jersey history.
