Around 200,000 people visited the Canadian migration ministry's website leading to its crash on the US presidential election night.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to CBC News, officials confirmed that half of these people had US IP-addresses. Last week the total traffic reached only 17,000.

On Wednesday, the Canadian ministry's website reportedly crashed, with an internal server error message appearing to those trying to gain access.

During the election campaign in the months leading up to Tuesday election, it was reported that "How to move to Canada" Google searches dramatically increased among US internet users, especially after Trump took the lead over other Republican candidates in March primaries.

GOP candidate Donald Trump secured an unexpected victory in the presidential election on Tuesday with 290 electoral votes against his rival Hillary Clinton's 232. The inauguration will be held on January 20.
