A “singing” road has been built in China’s capital Beijing, the web portal Sina.com.cn reported on Tuesday.

Drivers going at a speed of between 35km/h and 40 km/h can hear the tune “Ode to the Motherland” as they proceed along the road, which is located in the Qianling Mountain area. Musical sounds are created by tires moving across densely packed small rumble strips on the surface of the road.

The modernized road is set to open to the public next spring, the report said. Previously the road was abandoned since work had stopped in a coal mine it led to.

The idea behind building a “singing” highway was to boost road safety in the mountain region by encouraging motorists to drive at a proper speed, China Central Television reported. If you don't hear the song, you're driving too fast.
