Following the popular Ice Bucket Challenge two years ago, the ‘Mannequin Challenge’ is a new viral video craze which has taken off in the past week across the US.

Groups of young people are imitating mannequins and freezing in place for a fun video with music playing in the background.

Many people are sharing videos using the hashtag #MannequinChallenge. The music heard playing in the background of most clips is Rae Sremmurd’s Black Beatles featuring Gucci Mane. It has explicit lyrics.

The hip-hop act recently did its own version of the mannequin challenge while on tour.

Adolescents in the United States began performing the Mannequin Challenge in high schools last month, the clip below was one of the first posted.

The craze has gone viral since the start of November and now thousands have posted their versions of the #MannequinChallenge online. Many students at US Universities, such as East Carolina University, have posted their versions on Snapchat stories.

Time will tell if this new fad will turn into a phenomenon as big as the Ice Bucket Challenge. Back in 2014 millions of people dumped buckets of ice water on their heads for the cause and helped raise over $100 million. The donations helped in funding research into Motor Neuron Disease (ALS).
