Power Plant Fire Knocks Out Electricity to Most of Puerto Rico (VIDEOS)

A fire at an electric plant in Puerto Rico has left 1.5 million people on the island without power.

The cause of the blaze remains unknown. A spokeswoman for the Electric Power Authority said officials are investigating the incident as fire crews work to extinguish the flames.

There is no word yet on when power will be restored.

Heavy storms could be one factor in the incident, as well as structural problems due to the power company’s budgetary issues.
