Flying Drone Hotel May One Day Revolutionize Tourism Industry

US-based architecture, urban planning and engineering company HOK came up with a revolutionary design of what can only be described as a mobile flying hotel.

'Driftscape', the concept envisioned by HOK's Toronto office, is essentially a mobile self-sustained hotel which allows its guests to navigate a wide variety of locations without the need to leave their rooms via the creative use of drone technology.

According to the design, the hotel would be comprised of a so called 'Oasis' – a central hub containing the lobby, restaurant, lounge, as well as bar and kitchen – and a number of detachable 'Driftcraft' pods – single-volume guest rooms operated by drones, that provide a 360-degree view of the outside world and are capable of conducting independent excursions for two to three days.

According to the concept’s authors, Driftcraft are specifically designed to leave minimal impact on the environment and to preserve the integrity and authenticity of its operators’ experience.

The HOK’s design became one of the two finalists of the annual Radical Innovation competition which is scheduled to culminate on October 5. The winner of the contest will be awarded a $10,000 prize to further their concept.
