People in Moscow and St. Petersburg have gathered to honor the bright memory of the greatest screen villain of our time - Alan Rickman – by lighting up their “magic wands” and thanking the late actor for “making their childhood”.

The “wands in the air” flashmob was inspired by one of Rickman's movies, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in which Rickman's seemingly villainous character Snape joined forces with Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore against the evil Lord Voldemort.

In Moscow, the fans carried posters, drawings, flowers and candles to the British Embassy.

World-famous British actor Alan Rickman passed away on January 14 after losing a battle with cancer.

The actor, known for playing, among others, Professor Snape in Harry Potter, Hans Gruber in Die Hard and the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, was 69 years old.
