As Russia’s President Vladimir Putin’s popularity surges, his image served as a muse to many artists.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin’s approval rating reached almost 90%, according to the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre, his image served as inspiration to many artists around the world.

Here are some examples of Putin likenesses created during the past year, which serve as another indication of his fame.

The Simpsons Style Putin

This painting, drawn by Turkmen artist Amir Kerr and titled ‘Man of an Era’, was put on display at the Art.Who.Art exhibition in Moscow last August and was sold only 15 minutes after the event’s launch. The painting, sometimes referred to as a portrait of Putin Simpson, was stolen from the gallery but swiftly recovered by police.

3D Putin

One artist came up with an unorthodox way of allowing blind and visually impaired people to perceive the image of Russia’s most popular president. The installation, exhibited at a library in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk, combines a conventional portrait of Vladimir Putin with a 3D model of his face.

Chocolate Putin

One of the sculptors participating in the St. Petersburg chocolate fair in December presented an unusual creation - a life-sized edible effigy of the Russian president. The statue was made of 70 kilograms of chocolate and the festival’s organizers even considered submitting it to the Guinness Book of World Records.
