RT Channel Grabs 4 Medals at New York Festivals Awards

RT channel was awarded four medals at the prestigious international New York Festivals on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — RT channel was awarded four medals, including for the best news anchor, at the prestigious international New York Festivals on Wednesday.

RT's senior political correspondent Anissa Naouai took gold in the Best News Anchor category for her fast-paced news magazine covering top global events, "In the Now."

Another gold medal for Promotional Art Direction went to the channel's "Technology Update" program that showed everyday applications of nanotechnology. It previously won a bronze medal among Science & Technology programs.

According to the report, which was produced in conjunction with the Intercept and is based on 2012 documents leaked by U.S. whistleblower and former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, the surveillance dragnet codenamed Levitation has covered allied trading partners such as the U.S., Britain, Brazil, Germany, Spain, and Portugal. - Sputnik International

A silver award for Social Issues Documentaries was taken by RT's "Albino Africa," a documentary about persecution of people with albinism in East Africa's Tanzania, who are often targeted and ostracized for superstitious beliefs.

Salam Musafir's interview show in Arabic, "In A Word," took bronze medal for the Best Documentary/Information Program Promo.

Over the past years, RT has won several prizes at New York Festivals, an international festival that has been awarding creativity across all media since 1957. In 2014, RT won gold for a documentary titled "Blood and Honour" on North Caucasus and its ancient tradition of blood feud, while WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's weekly interview program on RT took first prize the year before.
