Two leading anti-aging experts have bet each other $1 million on who will live longer.

Dmitry Kaminskiy, who works at Deep Knowledge Ventures, and Dr. Alex Zhavoronkov, who works in bioinformatics company Insilico Medicine Inc. made a bet at the JP Morgan Health Care Conference last month.

The terms of the bet were reported by Zoltan Istvan an American writer and philosopher, for Gizmodo. He disclosed that the main reason behind the wager was to justify their devotion to anti-ageing science.

Kaminskiy and  Zhavoronkov hope that the competition will not only provide more incentive to develop different ways to influence their longevity, but also prolong their own lives.

"Longevity competitions may be a great way to combat both psychological and biological ageing," Zhavoronkov told Istvan. He also said he expected this to soon become a trend.

According to the bet, when one person dies, the other receives $1 million in Insilico Medicine stock. However, “The agreement will vest once both parties reach 100 years”.

“We are not allowed to contribute to each other’s demise and I cannot recommend any treatments to Dmitry,” told Zhavoronkov to ABC News. “Each one of us will have his own strategy for testing the various interventions.”

The scientists predict that improvements in anti-ageing could remove our acceptance of death  and provide us with the chance to live for centuries.
