The European Union does not need a security body as suggested by President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, instead, it needs to cooperate closely and coordinate its efforts to fight terrorism, a UK Labour lawmaker told Sputnik Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, Juncker said that the European Union needed a united security body among other agencies in the wake of the Brussels terror attacks.

"You need to have cooperation and coordination between the member states, you don’t need to have the EU pushing their own projects agenda on the issue of terrorism," Roger Godsiff said.

According to Godsiff, Juncker is suggesting a security union because "he is one of the fanatics who want to find Europe so close together like the United States of America."

The lawmaker said that the United Kingdom had vast experience in infiltrating terrorist cells, and London could share this known with other European capitals.

On Tuesday, two suicide blasts hit the departures hall of Brussels' Zaventem international airport and an explosion shook a subway carriage at Maelbeek station, close to the EU institutions, killing at least 31 people and injuring over 300.

Daesh is outlawed in many countries including Russia and the United States, has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
