"I believe we should distinguish between these concepts. There are refugees fleeing to Europe from terror – they come from Syria, Iraq and now Afghanistan. These people hope for a peaceful and decent future," Richter said. "We shouldn’t mix up Islam with terrorism which employs Islam – or rather its interpretation — to further its own agenda. The latter is a sect which terrorizes Muslims themselves. We must not forget that it were Muslims who became first victims of these terrorists."
Richter pointed out however that refugees uncontrollably crossing the borders is unacceptable.
"We must have a clear idea about who enters our country and the EU must decide where to establish border crossings. But I say it again, we should not mix up terrorists with Muslims fleeing from terrorism."
