US Politician: Kiev Unable to Bring Right-Wing Militias Under Complete Control

The ceasefire in Eastern Ukraine is unlikely to be a permanent solution to the crisis as Kiev fails to bring ultra-right groups under its complete control, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts told RIA Novosti on Monday.

WASHINGTON, September 8 (RIA Novosti), Lyudmila Chernova – The ceasefire in Eastern Ukraine is unlikely to be a permanent solution to the crisis as Kiev fails to bring ultra-right groups under its complete control, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts told RIA Novosti on Monday.

"Will the ceasefire hold? The right-wing Kiev militias, whose members often wear Nazi insignias, are not under Kiev's complete control," Roberts stressed, adding that these militias can easily violate the ceasefire, and there are already reports of violations.

Commenting on the overall situation in Ukraine, Roberts claimed that the Ukrainian crisis is one of Washington's tools to disrupt the economic and political relationships between Europe and Russia.

"By using Ukraine to demonize Russia, Washington has pushed the European Union into imposing sanctions on Russia that disrupt the trade relationships and create distrust," Roberts explained.

According to Roberts, Washington has no interest in resolving the Ukrainian crisis.

"As the Kiev government is Washington's puppet, there is no reason to expect a resolution of the conflict that Washington brought to Ukraine and to Russia," Roberts concluded.

Representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) agreed to a ceasefire between Kiev and independence supporters during the September 5 meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine in Minsk. The ceasefire started at 15:00 GMT the same day.

On Sunday, both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire, with both independence fighters and Kiev forces claiming pleading innocent.
